Ever wonder what really happens at a photo session? Or how someone ends up with a side hustle that involves camera gear and, occasionally, very unfortunate sidewalk discoveries? Recently, I did an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Instagram and answered your burning questions -everything from pricing and posing to poop (yes, poop). Here's the recap!
Q: How did you get started in photography?
A: For years, people kept asking me, “Why don’t you do this professionally?” Honestly, I didn’t think I was good enough. (Hello, imposter syndrome!) But then a friend’s mom asked me to do senior photos for her son… and something shifted. That one session changed everything. This fall marks 10 years since I officially became Aimee Anne Photography - and I still can’t believe this is real life.
Q: Do you do photography full-time?
A: Nope! Photography is my side hustle. By day, I’m an HR Manager in a long-term care community. (Basically, I switch from spreadsheets to shutter speeds.)
Q: How do you approach your sessions?
A: With patience. Every person is different - some people are total naturals in front of the camera, and others feel like deer in headlights. My job is to meet you where you’re at, and help you feel seen, comfortable, and gently guided. I always aim to be kind, encouraging, and not pushy. And if you're awkward? Same. You're my people.
Q: What can I expect during a session?
A: A good time. A relaxed time. A slightly longer than you expected because I’m a liar when I say “just one more” time. 😅
Expect support, fun, movement, and probably some laughter. Also… maybe a little chaos if kids are involved. We roll with it.
Q: Got any awkward moments?
A: OH YES. Like the time I was doing a senior session in downtown Minneapolis and we stumbled upon a giant (not canine) 💩 pile on the sidewalk. So yeah… glamour.
Q: What’s your favorite part about photography?
A: Easy. Making people feel good. There’s something so special about capturing people in a way they actually like seeing themselves. Also, even though I’m a big ol’ introvert, I love connecting with new people through photography.
Q: How much is a mini session, and how long do they last?
A: I loooove minis! They’re $225 and last about 15 minutes. They’re short, sweet, and perfect for families with little ones - just enough time to capture the magic before anyone melts down.
Q: My daughter’s going to be a senior this fall - when should I book?
A: NOW. Like… now now. Summer fills fast, but I still have some fall availability in September and October. If you’ve got a senior, don’t wait too long to reach out!
If you made it this far - first, bless you. Second, if you’ve got your own question I didn’t answer, shoot me a message or follow along on Instagram for my next AMA! And if you're ready to get in front of my lens (no poop piles, I promise), let’s talk about your session.
Let's make something beautiful.
💛Aimee
